History of the subcommittee | |
In May 1981, a questionnaire was sent by R. J. Owen to all those who attended the Braunschweig symposium in 1980 (see Special Meetings) and to a few additional people with a special interest in flavobacteria, in order to obtain views about the need for a subcommittee of the ICSB specially for flavobacteria (Newsletter no. 1, see Special Publications). From this survey, it was concluded by R. J. Owen that a consensus supported this idea, and he wrote to the Secretary for ICSB Subcommittees to request the formation of a taxonomic subcommittee for Flavobacterium and Cytophaga-like bacteria (Newsletter no. 2). The formation of the new subcommittee was approved at Boston in 1982 at the International Congress of Microbiology; there were 12 members and R. J. Owen was acting as pro tempore chairman and B. Holmes as pro tempore secretary (Newsletter no. 3). | |
